LAS COMADRES CELEBRATES ITS MEMBERS ACCOMPLISHMENTS -- APRIL 2023

Gladys Ayala-Borjas (NY) – Her jaw dropped when she heard that she won the Nora Award for Comadre of the Year.   

 

Darlene Tenes (CA) – She won! Darlene won the Nora Award for Comadre Community Service. 

 

Julia Abrantes (NC) – Happy to report that she got out of a toxic relationship and relocated to NC where she will begin again.

 

Dr. Esmeralda Adame (TX) – Happy to share that her Persistence in Adversity Podcast has been on the air for 2 years. If you would like to be a guest and share your story of persistence through adversity and how you overcame it, please contact me at dr.eadame@outlook.com !  Her podcast can be found on your favorite app!

 

Moni Avila (TX) – Completed her first year of the doctoral program at ASU.

 

Juana Bordas (CO) – Her book THE POWER OF LATINO LEADERSHIP - AHORA! was released in March. A 2nd edition of her best-selling book, it shows how the inclusive, people-centered and socially responsible ways Latino have led their people is a model for the 21st century.

 

Tili Capistran (TX) – She made March 2023 Club "M" Agent.

 

Larissa Yvette Davila (TX) – Completed her first month as executive director for the small business incubator, Economic Growth Business Incubator (EGBI) in Austin, Texas.

 

Maria Vilma Duran (TX) – She is serving as the Director of Community Engagement for the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority's Host Committee for the 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship.

 

Nancy Flores (TX) – Congratulations to Nancy for partnering with KUT to highlight arts and culture events in Austin’s Latino Community.

 

Lizabeth Garza-García (TX) – She was selected to participate in the LBJ Women’s Campaign 4th Cohort.

 

Monica Guzmán (TX) – She is excited and honored to be in the 2023 class of the LBJ Women's Campaign School!  The Kickoff for the #LBJWCS Cohort4 is May 11, 2023.  #LBJWCS #WomensHistoryMonth #WomenInPolitics #Democracy #bipartisan

 

Julia Martinez (FL) – Julia is proud to say that she will be graduating from her Emergency Medicine Residency in June 2023.

  

Jacqueline Quiňones (NY) – She was made Co-chair of professional development for SALUD employee resource group at the NYC Dept of Health.

 

Naibe Reynoso (CA) – Naibe just launched her new podcast "Latinas Take the Lead '' which is a production of the Seneca Women Podcast Network and iHeart Radio. One of her first guests was award-winning author Reyna Grande! Make sure to tune in!

 

Becky Rodriguez (TX) – Celebrates 15 years in Business -- COLLEGEHELP4YOU, which helps Students Navigate College Applications, Exams, Entrance, Financial Aid.  Lina Hidalgo was my Harvard Student!

 

Lily Roman (formerly Banos) (CA) – After 15 years of being in the sign industry, my husband (& therefore her too :-)) opened up a storefront for the business Roman Signs, in Newbury Park, CA. Although she is still a Life Insurance Broker, she is also his business partner in this new venture together, working everyday side by side. Wish them luck!

 

Zoraida Scirecalabrisotto (NY) – She is celebrating that she obtained CASAC-T certificate from NYS OASAS.

 

Mary Theresa Vasquez (TX) – Her book, FROM THE TEXAS COTTON FIELDS TO THE UNITED STATES TAX COURT, THE LIFE JOURNEY OF JUAN F. VASQUEZ, is a GOLD MEDAL finalist in the 2023 Latino Books into Movie Awards for the Biographic Movie category.

 

Rebecca J. Viagran (TX) – In January 2023, Rebecca was named new President & CEO of South Texas Business Partnership (SoTX). Formerly known as the South San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, the SoTX mission is to stimulate sustained economic prosperity across South Texas through advocacy and collaboration among our partners.
