SINK OR BURN by Cristy Road Carrera – Cristy, a punk rock icon and Latinx artist, weaves a story of romance, resistance, revolution and resilience amid a dystopian future in the year 2121.

Central to the story is the horrifying impact of the Spanish Inquisition, for 13 generations after all signs of Judaica were wiped from Spanish culture, some members of this family persist, behind bolted doors, in observing and studying Jewish rituals. For them, staying connected to their ancestral faith is paramount, and while each person's path to piety is different, each search proves powerfully moving.

LAS COMADRES PARTNERS WITH SEATTLE ESCRIBE ON SPANISH LANGUAGE BOOK CLUB -- CLUB DEL LIBRO

 

Las Comadres & Friends Book Club and Seattle Escribe are pleased to announce the launch of the Club del Libro, which will be the first Spanish-language reading club to celebrate the work of Latin American authors who write in Spanish and reside in the United States. In addition to strengthening the relationship with other writers in the United States of very diverse origins, we believe that this is a unique opportunity to promote reading in Spanish and create links in our Spanish-speaking communities.

 

The Club del Libro will host readings every quarter starting on March 1, 2022.  The first book selected is Las Locas Ilusiones by author Dr. Oswaldo Estrada.

 

Seattle Escribe is a non-profit organization that supports Spanish-speaking writers based in the U.S., especially in the Northwest region, to carry out their craft regardless of their stage of training. They provide resources for writers to start and develop their writing through classes, workshops and readings entirely in Spanish in order to strengthen their identity through language.

 

Las Comadres & Friends Book Club was launched to promote reading of Latino authors in English. Membership is open to everyone, women and men, Latino and non-Latino. The Book Club is celebrating 15 years of reading Latino lit.

Nos complace mucho anunciar el inicio del Club del Libro de Las Comadres Para Las Américas y Seattle Escribe, el cual será el primer club de lectura en español que celebra la obra de autores Latinoamericanos que escriben y radican en Estados Unidos. Además de fortalecer la relación con otros escritores en Estados Unidos de origen muy diverso, creemos que esta es una oportunidad única para fomentar la lectura en español y crear vínculos en nuestras comunidades hispanohablantes.

 

Los invitamos a registrarse en nuestra página web para participar en la lectura de nuestra primera obra seleccionada que es ‘Las Locas Ilusiones’ del escritor Oswaldo Estrada, un compendio de relatos de migración que estamos seguros será del agrado de todos ustedes. Oswaldo Estrada ha obtenido diversos premios, entre los que destacan el Primer Premio de Testimonio de la Feria Internacional del Libro Latino y Latinoamericano de Tuffs. Actualmente se desempeña como profesor de literatura latinoamericana en la Universidad de Carolina del Norte Chapel Hill.

 

Este Primer Club de Libro será moderado por la doctora Irma Cantú, profesora en la Universidad Internacional Texas A&M (TAMIU).
